The power of setting a theme for the year

At the start of a new year it's common for people, maybe you, to dive in and set goals or resolutions. They promise themselves that things are absolutely 100% going to be different, better, more magical and perfect this year!

Sadly that often turns pear-shaped (again!) fairly quickly.

Bombarded by demands, deadlines and a mile long To Do list, you just don't seem to have enough time or energy to focus on what you said you wanted to do. *sigh*

Or perhaps those goals and resolutions seemed like a good idea at the time, but now you're struggling to motivate yourself to do anything toward them. Oh and cue giving yourself a hard time about that happening again!

Frustrating and disappointing right!

How about doing things differently this year?

Choose a theme

Instead of putting yourself under so much pressure to choose goals and resolutions, choose a theme instead and be guided by that.

It might be a particular focus, e.g. health, wealth or relationships. Or it could be how you want to feel, e.g. calmer, more playful or curious.

Themes are powerful because they open you up to see opportunities you might not have noticed before. And you're more likely to make choices that support the theme you've chosen.

Goals and resolutions have a place

Now don't get me wrong, goals and resolutions have a place - they can be super useful. BUT so often they end up causing more harm than good - especially when people haven't (yet) learnt how to choose the right goals or what's required to achieve them.

Remember, you might still choose to set goals or resolutions but now you'll choose them within the context of your theme.

If having a theme for 2020 resonates with you, go ahead and choose one now.  Remember to write it down and look at it EVERY DAY.
