To-Do list makeover: learn this ONE key list (and life) changing tip!

Having an out of control To-Do list running your life is exhausting and frustrating, right? And you’re probably not feeling all that fulfilled either.

After the ‘interesting’ few months we’ve had with the impacts of Covid-19 and lockdown being felt far and wide, it’s understandable you'd want to put your head down and take action, any action, as long as you’re busy.

Because if you’re busy it feels like you’re doing something. And if you’re doing something that means you matter, that you’re contributing, that you’re doing okay.

Pause and breathe.

Why busyness seems to matter

There’s so much emphasis put on being busy. If you ask someone how they are, what’s the typical response? It’s usually some variation of “I’m busy”. And if you're not busy, people often give you a look that implies you're not doing your bit.

Busyness gets worn like a badge of honour. And it's not that we intentionally set out to wear the badge -- but when we're recognised as being busy, it can feel good. It's as if we're validated as a person.

But is being busy what you want to be known for?

Be honest with yourself. Do you really want to be crazy busy all the time?

If not, then what do you want to be known for? If someone you love and care about, or someone you respect was talking about you – what would you want them to say about you?

Pause and breathe again and let that question be answered from deep within your soul.

You get to decide what goes on your To-Do list.

While it might seem like your To-Do grows by itself, especially when you're not looking! It's helpful to remember, you create your own list. Whether they're written down or in your head, you put them together.

That's good news because it means you get to choose what goes on them.

And the best way to decide what makes it onto your list is to get clarity about who you are and what you want for your life. Then use that as a guide to decide what most deserves your attention, energy and focus.

It's possible to create a shorter list (yay!). But it's not just about the length because let's face it -- it could be a short list full of stuff that doesn't actually matter to you or stuff that stresses you out.

And the best type of To-Do list is this one ...

A purposefully crafted list with tasks that help you create the life you want to live.

Okay, now it’s your turn! Because you could just read this blog and not take action but then you’d still feel pushed and pulled by an out of control list - and you don’t want that, do you?

It’s time to purge and prune (as Marie Forleo would say) your To-Do list and get it into shape.
