What are you asking for in life?
/When you're in a café placing your order, do you say this, "I don't want a coffee"? Or how about this, "I don't want green tea"?
You don't do you?
Because the person wouldn't know what you want.
When you order, you ask for what you want.
If it was me, I'd order some sort of tea (jasmine, peppermint, and kawakawa are my top 3 favs). Maybe you're a coffee drinker and you'd order a trim latte, a decaf cappuccino with almond milk, a long black, or whatever it is you drink.
Don’t ask for what you don’t want
Here are a few examples of responses clients have shared when I've asked what they want for their life ...
I don't want to be this stressed!
I don't want to keep living like this, it doesn't make me happy 😢
I don't want to be treated like this by my partner/boss/family/colleagues/friends anymore!
Notice how the sentences all start with "I don't want...".
Ask for what you do want
While it's important to know what you don't want, it's only useful when you use that to help you get clear about what you do want.
And that makes sense, right?
Because if you don't know what you want for your life, how will that become your reality???
The truth is, it won't and that's frustrating because this is the quality of your life we’re talking about.
So, if you've been focused on what you DON'T want, your mission (if you choose to accept it - and I hope you will) is to grab your journal and start writing down what you do want.
But before you do that, here's one more tip ... be as specific as possible. Because remember what it's like when you order a drink or food at a cafe, you're specific because then you'll get what you want. You and your life deserve the same – if not MORE – specificity!
