How creating a vision boards helps you live well
/Hosting a vision board workshop is something I really enjoy because I know how impactful the work we'll do together can be. You see, most people will spend very little (if any) time thinking about the vision they have for their life.
Instead, caught up in "life" and doing all the things they think they *should*, the weeks, months, years, and dare I say it, decades fly by. And when you stop and look at how you've been living, you realise you've not focused on what really matters to you 😢
I get it.
That used to be me too.
People who knew me would have said I was successful and had a great life. I was busy and doing stuff, and I had a good job and all that went with that. But you know what? I was living by default, not design — I’d never given any real thought to what I wanted for my life so I just settled for what showed up.
It was all thanks to a serious health scare that I realised I didn't feel fulfilled.
So, back to talking about those vision board workshops.
There's more to vision boarding than creating a pretty-looking picture. Sure you could just take any images and words and stick them on a board and call it done, but you'll probably be disappointed.
Go within to understand the vision you have for your life
Before the workshop, participants reflect on some key questions that I provide—it helps them focus their mind and heart on what matters.
And then, at the start of the session, we always explore what they've written. This is an important step because I want to make sure they're focusing on what's right and true for them, not a version of what they think is expected.
It can be confronting work.
[Which might seem odd – I mean, why would thinking about what you really want, be so challenging?! You might want to grab your journal and answer that question for yourself.]
But it's only when, with kindness and curiosity, you explore who you are and your dreams, that the vision board you create can be deeply meaningful.
The vision board is a visual representation of the vision you have for your life.
And that right there is the key - it's a representation of the vision you have for your life.
When you have that, you've got something to guide you each and every day. It will help you feel more confident about the decisions and choices you make, and the actions you take. Finally, you're aligning how you show up and what you do with what matters most to you.
That's living life by design!
Do you have a vision? Is it written down or reflected on a vision board or in some other way? And each day, are you aligning how you show up and what you do with your vision?
If not, maybe it's time to think about your own life vision.
Because remember...
This is your life to live well and the best time to do that is now.
