Defining success on your own terms (and WHY it's important!)
/Ever met someone who you thought was successful only to find out that things weren't as they seemed?
Because yeah sure they live in the right neighbourhood, have a beautiful partner and a good group of friends, a great job, nice car and they holiday in fabulous places, but then you realise they feel lost and unfulfilled.
It's an all-too-common situation that makes me incredibly sad. Because this life you're living now is short and precious and it's such a shame to go through each day not feeling purposeful or fulfilled.
What's going on?
Well, over time and in response to what happens in our lives, including what we're told, we begin to believe that who we are and what we want isn't good enough.
So we strive to achieve 'success' according to the standards set by our family, peers, culture, community and so on. But when those measures of success don't align with our own view of success, we experience dis-ease.
Even though it appears you've got everything you could ever want, you can feel hollow, out of sorts and as if something is missing. And while you can put on a brave face and try to ignore those feelings aside, it doesn't help. The feeling won't just go, you actually need to do something about it.
That's why defining what success means to you is so important.
Because until YOU know what success means to you, you'll consciously and unconsciously get pushed and pulled by the expectations of others. And that's a shame, especially when you realise just how much dis-ease, stress and illness it creates!
At the heart of the work I do with all my clients, whether we work 1:1 or through an online programme, there's a strong focus on gaining greater clarity about who you are and what matters to you. And his is important work because it's life-changing!
You don't have to push yourself to fit into a box that quite frankly was never meant for you in the first place! It's time to be you, to align with your truth.
So, how about it? Will you commit time today to write down what success means to you? Because this is your life to live well.
And remember, this isn't about the success you think you should want, it's about the success that matters to you.
Go well,
